2008 Wrap Up

I found a few photos from this year that I wanted to post before I put away my '08 folder. What a great freakin' year!

As with all of the photos on here, this one is raw. This is easily one of my favorite pictures I've ever taken.

More Karl N Bernie

A bunch of us went to the Upright Citizens Brigade tonight for their Sunday night improv show. It's $11, a 10 minute walk from my apartment and featured Horatio Sanz from Saturday Night Live and Rob Riggle from The Daily Show. And they have beer. Woo-hoo!

Most of our group were transplants from Kansas, including our two newbies, Amber and MJ. In keeping with tonight's theme of improv comedy and people from Kansas, here's the Karl N Bernie video blogs, short, unscripted pieces by people from Kansas. Not as funny as the Upright Citizens Brigade, but I don't get paid as much as they do. Maybe that's backwards, maybe I'm not getting paid as much because I'm not as funny. What are you gonna do?

"I'm gonna karate chop them panties to get to that 'gina!"

More Movies

Okay, the last year I've been producing and co-starring in a series of goofy comedy shorts called "The Adventures of Karl n' Bernie". I thought I was done with my acting career, but the Writer/Director and other lead actor are Jason Bailey and Mac Welch, two guys I've been working with since high school. Suffice it to say I find it hard to turn them down.

Enjoy!

I almost forgot, I make movies

I should put something with moving pictures up here. I posted this on YouTube months ago, but it seems like it belongs here more.

I'm going to post some more movie stuff soon, seeing as that's the art I actually make. All the rest of this is pleasant diversion.

Anyway, here it is, tattoo #3 in a six part series of Mayan work depicting the cycle of life. I'd explain it but when I do I sound like a wannabe guru/anthropologist/psychedelic-mushroom-religion guy.

Watching movies is more fun than reading anyway.

Art in Brooklyn

I rode my bike across the Williamsburg Bridge instead of working the other day, then North through Brooklyn into Queens, across the 59th St Bridge and down the East side to Battery Park, then up the West side to the Village and back home. It was one of the last nice days of the year and my first long ride since the biathlon.

Took a couple pictures along the way, most of them in Brooklyn. I rode by two ladies out painting a bit of fence and it was a little too good to pass up. This is just the kind of illustration related, Juxtapoz style stuff that I love and they were doing it very well. And they didn't have permission to be painting this wall in broad daylight and they had thick accents and they were all types of 80's-style hipster-artist hot. It was a good look all around.

Ryan Leslie Video

My friend Shiloh brought a big job to the company last month - a new music video for the R&B artist Ryan Leslie. He's a cool guy, very smart and absolutely filled with new ideas. The video was a lot of work but we had a great weekend, working with friends and, um, no lame ass agency/label people to get in the way. Woo-hoo!

More Pics Of My Sisters

Oops! I found a whole new folder of pictures, mostly of Rachel and Kirsten walking around New York, shopping, kind of. They're all out of sequence with some of this other crap on the blog, but oh well.

More pics of my lovely city and my lovely sisters, like it needs to be in order.

I Bomb You!

This picture is kind of crazy, but it's actually the officially sanctioned logo of the NYPD bomb squad, painted 12 feet tall on the garage door of their precinct. The fact that it's a little mustached man with dark glasses and a skullcap riding a presumably hijacked bomb toward the World Trade Center buildings has apparently caught no one's eye but mine.

This metalwork is the last surviving piece of the pier that was the destination for the Titanic. The boat didn't make it, there's been a couple movies on the subject if you don't know the story. The dock was owned by a company called White Star Line and you can still faintly see the lettering on the cross bar. It's a couple blocks from my house, mostly doing nothing now. Although, the Food Network Taste of NY was there the other day, rows and rows of yumminess and column after column of people trying to nab a toothpick with something fancy on the business end.
